The Crater Rim Trail, which circles the summit of Kīlauea, was expected to reopen between Volcano House and Kilauea Military Camp following the eruption of Kīlauea volcano in late September. Rich with plant and animal life, the trail offers diverse panoramas, steam vents, craters, desert and lush rainforest. Scenic helicopter flights and boat tours to see the lava flowing into the ocean are a great way to witness the spectacle, but this is subject to change.
